Don’t Cave!

Well… the Republican leadership is. Leading, I mean. At least, at present. Boehner has stuck to our guns and told Obama to chew an old sock… No tax increases.

Okay, but don’t fault me for feeling a bit cautious and, truth be known, skeptical as well. I have seen the Republicans with strong hands, only to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory too many times to get giddy about this crew, in any case. John Boehner is not exactly the lion of the right, no matter how much we want him to be.

I think of Boehner and I think of back door deal-making… and the establishment ‘don’t rock the boat’ and ‘we know better than you do’ attitude that so many of us have come to detest. One of the reasons the Tea Party and Citizen Patriot movements came into being to start with.

I think perhaps Eric Cantor is a bit closer to the ‘rebellious’ freshman class. Those 71 principled patriots unexpectedly resisted the blandishments of the party hacks from both sides, and not a few threats from various sources, to become a force of their own in the 112th Congress.

But keep in mind, Eric is himself a product of the establishment, though his performance in these critical times thus far has been exemplary. I’ve heard him described as “A young man in a hurry”. Fine. As long as he tows the conservative banner with him.

Between the adamant refusal of the Conservatives to consider tax increases, ‘revenue enhancers’, or any of the other scams put forth by ObaMao’s Marxists, and the absolute blizzard, the continuing blizzard I may add, of calls, emails and visits to Republican members, even the somewhat timid, tentative Boehner seemed to stiffen up.
There’s just one thing that bothers me… there’s still plenty of time for him to roll over.
